Safe Electric is a regulatory scheme set up to ensure all RECs (Registered Electrical Contractors) are adhering to national standards when it comes to electrical work. The scheme is operated by RECI (Registered Electrical Contractors of Ireland) and is designed to keep households safe. Safe Electric will regularly inspect electrical work, investigate complaints and carry out disciplinary work of members where necessary.
By using a REC (Registered Electrical Contractor) you can be confident that they will adhere to the standards set out by Safe Electric in relation to training, competence, insurance, and completion certificates. In fact, it is illegal to carry out most domestic electrical works in Ireland if you are not a REC (Registered Electrical Contractor). If you’re unsure, you can search on the Safe Electric website to check if an electrician is registered.
